The problem is these new pc components are so complicated to try and understand that it's hard to pick the right thing but this site does help make it a lot simpler, especially as it breaks down what the weak link in that setup will be.įor a while I couldn't stop crashing, usually at high speed and at the slightest hint of a bump in the road or a slight bend. They've said that the AI is a bit slow until they get a gauge on how quick people are, and given that I can win events on Very Hard I'm guessing that there will be big changes to come. Not a simulator, but it hits that really nice "simcade"-type driving model that most of the other Codemasters racing games are known for (like the GRID games). 144hz freesync renders the game like butter.ĭiRT 4 is a well-polished racing game with both quantity and quality. Anyway, the game's not a technical powerhouse by any means, but it runs at ~100fps in 1440p on my RX 480 without a hitch, which is good. Not much of a step above DiRT 3 but to be fair, DiRT 3 had really good graphics for its time (and I think not enough people appreciated that when it released in 2011). But I think it actually feels great to play. I assumed that the driving model wouldn't be super realistic, since it's a mainline DiRT game.
I think I'm impressed more than anything. For me, the "simulation mode" in DiRT 4 feels close enough. If you're only interested in "pure" rally driving, and the simulation aspect is really important to you, then stick with Dirt: Rally. It's probably the largest and most comprehensive offroad-racing package that a video game has ever offered, in my eyes.īut, Dirt: Rally it is not. I've only put a couple of hours into DiRT 4 so far, but I'm completely thrilled with it. Haven't gotten to the online part yet but it looks like the events are set up similarly to Rally. Dirt Rally always surprised me in that I though I was boss but then found myself careening off into the woods or getting caught up on the edge of the trail. I am playing on the "demanding" difficulty (around +85% XP) and it's a walk in the park. 4 is good, but honestly I am disappointed. I do like the game but Rally was amazing in terms of difficulty and despite the lack of locales it was a terrific game. they are fun to drive but are clearly made up of sections that are reused in different ways throughout each stage-kind of dumb. My biggest complaint however are the track designs. For starters the graphics aren't great and I'm maxed out on UHD. Playing in sim mode with no aid and MT and it feels like Dirt Rally but there's clearly something odd with it. I put in over 100 hours into Rally and this one just isn't that.
